Central Kolkata

Central Kolkata forms the heart of the Kolkata metropolis. The central regions of the city are situated on the west banks of the Hooghly River. The eastern fringes that falls beyond central Kolkata consists of the Salt Lake City and its adjoining townships. The city center makes up the posh area and is provided with renowned commercial and trade centres. An interwoven network of roads, railway lines and subway tracks connects Kolkata central with the rest of the city. The heart of the city comprises chiefly of the regions of BBD Bagh, Entali and Esplanade.

Kolkata city center is known for its commercial complexes, accommodation facilities, shopping centres, business houses and the historical buildings. The famous streets here include Chowringhee Road, Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani, Camac Street, etc. Important government offices and some great business houses of Kolkata are rooted in this place. Heritage Buildings, Stadiums and other tourist attractions are abundantly available in this part of the city. The residents of the region constitute the upper class aristocratic and business families. The city center often forms the priority as a tourist visiting place.
