Nadia district lies north of Kolkata and more than 100 kms
from it. The place is a renowned learning centre in West Bengal
state. Primarily dominated by a society holding traditional values.
The district of Nadia consists of many townships wherein some famous
places of the state are located. The town of Nadia is well connected
to Kolkata city and is a nice getaway place for Kolkata. Some
important places of Nadia include names like Krishnanagar, Mayapur,
Nabadwip, Bethuadohodi, Kalyani, Phulia, Shantipur, Plassy, etc.
The Krishnanagar is famous as a toy making place especially the
clay dolls. The chief attractions of the region are Krishnanagar
Palace and the Roman Catholic Church. Likewise Mayapur is famous for
the head quarters of International Society for Krishna Consciousness
(ISKCON). The ISCKON temple situated here is fast becoming an
important tourist destination. Nabadwip, yet another popular
destination is a small town on the banks of Hooghly river. This
place is well provided with temples and the place is associated with
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the place being his birth place, who led to
the revivalism of Hindu faith. The place as such has become a
popular pilgrimage centre with hundreds of devotees visiting the
place.

than 100 kms. Accessibility into the region is provided by bus
services, especially tourist buses.

premises. It takes about 2 hours in the train to reach the
place.
