Health/Fitness
Health in Kolkata city is safe guarded by a mosaic of medical and
health care institutes in the city. To meet the requirements of more
than 13 million people special plans have been formulated and
executed by state agencies, private sector and social action groups.
The city has a good reputation after eradicating and gaining control
over some of the threatening diseases. The city finally says goodbye
to smallpox. Malaria, enteric diseases and tuberculosis had made the
scene topsy-turvy in the past. The current status is full of
compliments following large scale mobilization of primary health
care resources.
Hundreds of hospitals that are run by the state and private owners
provide health care facilities and services. A number of
dispensaries run by Calcutta Municipal Corporation provide free
services in Kolkata. There are charities and social action groups
attending physically challenged people. A good number of medical
colleges and research institutes further facilitate quality health
care in the region. The city has an infra structure to provide
facilities and services to the entire north eastern regions of
India.
In few occasions tourists in Kolkata city complained about food
